Queen Victoria had just finished laying the foundations stone for the Albert Hall when the Prince of Wales opened its doors for the first time.
William Compton, the entrepreneurial landlord of that time, supplemented his income by ferrying customers between the two local train stations in his horse drawn fly carriage – via the pub.
These days our customers arrive by all manner of means and whenthey get here they can be sure of a warm welcome from pub manager Matt and his team.
“We first pulled the towels off the pumps for the first time more than 25 years ago and the pub has been a Free House ever since.
We’re passionate about the beer we serve and our food that is freshly cooked to order. Matt and the team are dedicated to making your visit a thoroughly enjoyable one.”
